Am With You always

Sant Tukaram, a 17th-century Marathi saint and poet, is renowned for his devotional compositions known as ‘abhangas.’One of his teachings emphasizes the profound connection between a devotee’s posture during chanting and the divine’s response:

  • Lying Down and Chanting: When you lie down and chant, God comes and sits right next to you.
  • Standing and Chanting: When you stand and chant, God dances next to you.
  • Dancing and Chanting: When you dance and chant, you feel the divine embrace.

This teaching underscores the belief that the more engaged and active one’s devotion, the more intimate and joyous the connection with the divine becomes. It encourages devotees to immerse themselves fully in their spiritual practices, suggesting that physical expression, such as dancing, can lead to a deeper experience of divine presence.

When you sit and chant His name,
He stands beside you, just the same.
When you rise and sing with grace,
He dances near, a joyous embrace.

And when you dance with heart so true,
He lifts you up and sings with you.
In every step, in every song,
With love and faith, He walks along.
